Opening Days!!!

That's right MBL has two of them. Games at Zirkel and Harden Fields Saturday night May 5th at 5:30 and 8pm. Also, games at Simmons and Kuenn Sunday May 6th at noon and 2:30pm. Come out and see Milwaukee County's ametuer baseball league.

Winning managers, remember to submit game summaries, with a line or two at least, about the game by Monday evening.

Two teams aren't paid in full, please pay in full by May 4th at lunch time, or you will forfeit your first game and be subject to a $130 forfeit fee for umps and the scorekeeper. I will be having lunch on May 4th from 11:45am to 1pm at Club Paragon. I will have your baseballs there as well that day. Managers, your outstanding checks are all being deposited on May 4th. I also have baseballs and scorebooks for 2 teams. Remember to EMAIL rosters using the roster form above by Friday to Jim and Kirk.

New players: We have had about 50 new player applications sent in the past month. Some players have found teams, although most team rosters are fairly full. There are a handful of teams that can use one or two more players. I have sent all "new player applications" to the managers in the league. If you are not contacted, your best bet is to go to a couple of games the first few weekends and talk to the managers after their games, particularly those who don't have a lot of guys on their benchs. Also, in June when players start to schedule vacations and some injuries occur is another good opportunity to visit with managers after games to see about playing the second half of the season and preparing for next year.

We would love to expand in the future, however, all new teams must have a diamond to play half of their games on from this point forward until Milwaukee County renovates a couple of secondary diamonds into game quality fields. (Feel free to contact your County Supervisor to ask them to allocate more money back to the parks, as the park's budget has been slashed relentlessly for a decade now; and reduce funding instead for other items where broad based community benefits are not apparent. The Milwaukee County Parks system is a part of the fabric of the area which virtually all area residents benefit from. The parks help sustain and improve the quality of life in the Milwaukee area. This is vitally important to many people, but especially to young people and their families, which in turn is important to the ultimate economic development of the region.) So, if you would like an expansion team in 2008, you will need a sponsor(s) to cover at least $800 of team fees (with $500 due at our first meeting in January 2008), a diamond, such as a high school diamond, that can be used very inexpensively and a fifteen man roster.

Note: The games on 5-12 between Johnny V's and O'Brien's are at 5:30pm and 8pm.
