Semi-Final Results
O'Brien's / Milwaukee Harley Davidson 2 PJ's Royals 1
The semi-final game between PJ's Royals and O'Brien's / Milwaukee Harley-Davidson proved to be a pitching battle between the Royals allstar Doug Paradowski and O'Brien's veteran Jim Vielbaum. O'Brien's scored first and started to rally, when Dan Wilfrath led off the second inning with a line drive homerun left. Mike Drover then followed with a double. After two flyouts Doug Dollhopf singled to right sending Drover around third, but the Royals rightfielder Mike Paradowski fielded the ball cleanly and threw a strike to nail Drover at the plate and end the inning with O'Brien's scoring only one run. The Royals fought back to score their lone run in the fourth on an RBI single by Steve Rappl scoring team Captain Joe Cefalu who reached on a fielders choice. Adam Miller replaced Paradowski (5IP 6H 1K 1BB 1ER) on the mound in the sixth and shut down O'Brien\'s 3-4-5 hitters. Jim Vielbaum (7IP 5H 2K 4BB 1ER) retired the Royals in order in the top of the seventh giving O'Brien's one last chance to win before extra innings. With one one in the bottom of the seventh Jason Peters walked and was replaced by pinch runner Jim Rinelli. Rinelli broke to steal second and made it easily when the pitch went for a passed ball. Doug Dollhopf walked putting the double play in order for the Royals. Rinelli then advanced to third on an errant pickoff attempt at first. Chris Vogt put the ball in play to short that scored Rinelli for the winning run. Johnny V's 9 Long Wongs 0
This game was much closer than the final score indicates. After five innings, Johnny V's held a 1-0 lead in a pitching duel between two of the league's best pitchers in V's Mike Gramarossa and Wong's Joe Brand. Gramarossa dealing mostly placed fastballs held Long Wongs potent offense to one hit through five, while Joe Brand had a no-hitter going through five despite the 1-0 deficit against Johnny V's equally potent offense. Johnny V's got some breathing room in the sixth, keyed by Rob Weist's two run scoring single on a liner to right just over the Wong's second baseman. In the bottom of the sixth Long Wong's attempted to rally. Kirk Spano led the inning off with a single. Tom Mortonson then blasted a drive to the deep left centerfield gap, only to have Eric Lubarsky make a great running catch taking away extra bases. Brand then followed with a blast to center that Wiest tracked down on the run again taking away extra bases. In the 7th, past balls, errors and walks, set up Tony Lubarsky to seal the deal for Johnny V's. On a 1-0 pitch, Lubarsky launched a no doubt grand slam home run to the left field power alley. Gramarossa went the distance throwing the 2 hit shutout. Long Wong's season ended at 11-7. Johnny V's advances to play regular season Champion O'Brien's / Milwaukee Harley Davidson.

Final 2007 Manager's Meeting: Sunday, September 23 at 6:30pm at Long Wongs for 90 minutes. We have to discuss league alignment/expansion, budget and select the league team, Pitcher of the Year and MVP.

The Milwaukee County Historical Society will open a new exhibition entitled Major League Milwaukee: Braves, Brewers, Baseball that examines the community's relationship with Major League Baseball over the past fifty-five years on Sunday, July 22 from 1 to 5 p.m, and running through December 2nd.
The exhibition pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of the World Series win by the Milwaukee Braves in 1957 and the 25th anniversary of the Brewers win of the 1982 American League Championship.
Bob Buege, a member of the Society of American Baseball Research and the Milwaukee Braves Historical Association, will present an illustrated lecture on the early history of major league baseball in Milwaukee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 22 of the exhibition opening.
Highlighted in the exhibit will be baseball bats used by Paul Molitor, Robin Yount, and Gorman Thomas, a signed uniform from Ben Oglivie, a signed batting helmet from Cecil Cooper, and signed balls and baseball cards from many of the other players.
The exhibit also will feature both fan and player experiences. Over 100 objects and a like number of photographs help tell the story of baseball excitement, pride, fame, struggle, and even bitter disappointment. From the story come legends such as Henry Aaron, Warren Spahn, Eddie Mathews, and Lou Burdette of the Braves and Paul Molitor, Gorman Thomas, Robin Yount, and Jim Gantner of the Brewers.
Fan souvenirs and business advertisements represent the focus of the exhibit with booster pins and buttons, a player ring made by Max Margolis of the Columbia Family Clothing Stores, Spic and Span and Johnston Cookies baseball cards, an Old Milwaukee bar score board, score cards, pennants, bobble heads, fan art, children’s toys, posters, a fan banner and decorated hats, a turn stile from Milwaukee County Stadium, and a model of Miller Park.
The exhibit will also feature original radio broadcasts of the 1957 series and television footage of both the Braves in 1957 and Brewers in 1982. Hands-on activities include an interactive that shows the differences between player gloves and a dress up area where children can put on fan gear.
The Milwaukee County Historical Society is open Mondays to Fridays 9:30 am to 5:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; Sundays 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Admission charges apply--$3.00 for adults; $2.00 for children over 6 years (free for children under 5 years); $2.00 for seniors (over 62 years); $10.00 family rate (2 adults and 3 or more children). Players ejected from a game will receive a minimum one game suspension. Arguing balls and strikes, general arguing, excessive trash talking and profanity are potential causes for ejection. Not leaving the field promptly upon ejection will carry a heavier suspension.
Runners are not to create a collision with the catcher for the purpose of jarring the ball loose (or any other reason) on a play at the plate. In the event of a tag play at the plate, if the ball and runner arrive at about the same time and there is a collision, there is no rules infraction. If the ball arrives before the runner and the runner has time to slide, he should slide, avoid a full impact collision or give himself up at the plate. Umpires will use their best discretion interpretting this type of play and as a judgement call should not be argued, similar to balls and strikes. Correspondingly, since we are protecting catchers (as well as runners) from injury with this rule, a catcher who blocks the plate without the ball is interfering with the runner and is subject to the appropriate ruling of interference, and possible ejection, if the catcher is deemed to have made deliberate or negligent contact with a runner.

Playoff rule update: Unless there are more objections, currently there are only two, (6 objections, which would be a quorum , would quash this), we are extending the playoff roster deadline to July 6 at 5pm. Players still need to meet the IP/PA minimums to qualify for playoff play; that is a player must have a combination of innings pitched and plate appearance at least equal to the total games scheduled for the team they play for. I am resending by email the list of player applications from the past two months. If a player is already on a team, don't recruit him when you find out, that is my record keeping short coming he's still listed as a player applicant. Remember, players must be age 18.
Stats will be posted this week.

Last weekends scores are brought to you by the letter W.
O'Brien's / Milwaukee Harley Davidson 4 Long Wongs 2
Long Wong's saw their undefeated season come to an end in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader between division rivals. O'Brien's/Milw. HD's Dan Wilfrath and Wong's Joe Brand both pitched great games with Wilfrath coming out on top scattering five hits and striking out six. Wilfrath also helped himself out at the plate going 2-2 with a double and two runs scored. Greg Kohlhapp's clutch two out two RBI double in the third proved to be the difference in the opener.
O'Brien's / Milwaukee Harley Davidson 11 Long Wongs 8
Game two featured a see-saw battle that had four lead changes before O'Brien's/Milwaukee HD finally nailed down the win. Long Wong's jumped out to a 6-1 lead after two innings, led by Kirk Spano's double and Tom Mortonson's triple, before O'Brien's battled back scoring six in the top of the third highlighted by a two-run homerun by Jon Stocks. Long Wongs jumped back in front, scoring two in the bottom of the fourth but would not score again. O'Brien's took the lead for good in the fifth inning scoring four runs. O'Brien's / Milwaukee HD pounded out 14 hits, seven for extra bases, led by Tim Heling, 3-4 (2 dbl, 3bi), Chris Sanders' (dbl, trpl, 2r), and Jim Rinelli with two doubles. Jim Vielbaum settled down after a rough start allowing no runs after the fourth inning to get the complete game win and pull O'Brien's into a tie for first with Long Wong's in the competitive Open division.
Johnny V's 13 Milwaukee PD 1

Club Paragon / Milwaukee Sporting Goods 6 Kasper's 2
Club Paragon was finally able to get the Kasper's monkey off their back (and it was a big monkey), by defeating them for the first time, 6-2. Again, brilliant pitching by Jimmy Kuriatnyk paved the way, only allowing two runs to score. In addition, he helped himself out scoring in the first off a Bryan Ureda single, and a Mike Grabek double in the seventh scored three to seal the victory.
Brown Deer Supreme Builders 6 Franklin Barber Plumbing 2
Starter Ryan Olson made his debut for the Builders and pitched a complete game allowing one earned run. The game was broke open in the forth inning as Supreme added three runs which secured the victory. Builder's bats were led by Eric Belter (4-4, 2 runs), Sean Carolan, and Josh Yachinich who had 8 of the team's 11 hits. Ryan Searle led Franklin's hitting going 3 for 4.
Brown Deer Supreme Builders 8 Franklin Barber Plumbing 4
The Builders tightened up the National division by sweeping the double header against Franklin. Brian Rennicke earned the win by throwing a complete game with 3 earned runs and 7 strikeouts. Franklin led the game 3-1 going into the bottom of the third but the Builders countered with 4 to secure a lead for the remainder of the game. Chad Olson led Supreme going 4 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 stolen bases. In addition, Eric Belter extended his multi-hit streak to seven straight games and Colin Moser added 2 doubles. 2008 Expansion
We have had several requests for information regarding expansion teams for 2008. Because there is a shortage of playable game diamonds in Milwaukee County there are some special criteria for new teams. Here are the criteria:
1. Teams must have their entire league fee by Sunday, January 27, 2008 of $2000 for teams that play a 17 or 18 game schedule, $1700 for 14 game schedule (fees might end up being a little below or above those stated as determined at a later date).
2. Teams must have at least half of their fees paid by sponsors.
3. Teams must have a non-Milwaukee County Parks field to play at least half of their games on. Fields must be in Milwaukee County, or a suburb adjacent to Milwaukee County, i.e. Muskego, New Berlin, Waukesha, Brookfield, Butler, Lannon, Menomonee Falls, Racine, Mequon... We suggest checking with local High Schools and their baseball booster clubs to find out if you might be able as an alum baseball player to use their fields in June and July. Setting up your teams as alumni club teams with a local sponsor might be a viable strategy (it is actually the preferred strategy).
A note to Lakes teams. If you'd like to join us for an additional 14 game schedule, we will likely be able to accomodate your Lakes schedule if you are bringing a lit diamond for your games with your team. Please, only teams in Milwaukee County or in municipalities adjacent to Milwaukee County.

Rules & Playoff Rosters
2. Playoff rosters are due before your games this weekend.
3. Remember, as decided by the managers pre-season, to be playoff eligible, a player must be on the roster by this weekend's games (regardless of rain or play, on by the scheduled game time) and have a combination of innings pitched and plate appearances at least equal to the number of games a team plays. Exceptions only for injured players who met the requirement last year and are coming back late this year.
4. In the event of a play at the plate, if the ball and runner arrive at about the same time and there is a collision, there is no rules infraction. If the ball arrives before the runner and the runner has time to slide, he should slide, avoid a full impact collision (i.e. try to avoid being tagged or going to the side of the catcher) or give himself up at the plate. Runners are not to create a collision for the purpose of jarring the ball loose. Umpires will use their best discretion interpretting this type of play and as a judgement call should not be argued, similar to balls and strikes. Correspondingly, since we are protecting catchers, and runners, from injury with this rule, a catcher who blocks the plate without the ball is interfering with the runner and is subject to the appropriate ruling of interference, and possible ejection, if the catcher is deemed to have made deliberate or negligent contact with a runner.

Friday games:
Long Wongs 10 Varsity Club Bulldawgs 7
Varsity Club couldn't capitalize on Long Wongs manager Kirk Spano's line-up card error which caused Chris Adamski to be out in the first inning after getting plunked in the helmet short changing a rally and dropping middle of the line-up hitter Joe Brand to ninth. Josh Sopczak held Long Wongs close through six allowing the team to get its bearings. Long Wongs hitters paid back Sopczak when they overcame an early 4-2 deficit to tie the game in the 5th on three hits generating two runs, and took the lead for good in the sixth with five runs. The Long Wongs sixth only ended when Varsity Club turned a 6-4-3 triple play off a no out runners at first and second line drive to the shortstop. Bruce Smeby came in to get the save for Long Wongs. Aaron Krueger had three hits for Long Wongs, as Tom Mortonson, Chris Adamski and Brian Jaeger all had two hits.
Club Paragon / Milwaukee Sporting Goods 11 O'Brien's / Milwaukee Harley Davidson 7
Club Paragon/MSG started off hot in the first inning and never looked back. Troy Schmitt was and RBI machine, driving in 4 runs himself, while Jimmy Kuriatnyk helped himself out with two hits and two RBIs. In addition, he threw a 5 hitter, scoring the win.
Johnny V's 7 Planet Markey's Indians 1
Tony Lubarsky smacked a grand slam in the 5th to break open a close game. Rob Weist added 2 hits while Mike Gramarossa tossed a 3-hitter to get the win.
Saturday/ Sunday
Long Wongs 1 Franklin Barber Plumbing 0
In a game between league leaders, the difference was base running and fielding. Long Wongs scored in the first on two stolen bases by John Wade and an throwing error. Joe Brand battled Franklin pitcher Mike Slama for five innings before giving way to Chris Adamski who finished the two-pitcher two hit shut out. Brand made two crucial plays on the day from the mound, picking off a base runner and catching a runner too far off base after a hit to the mound. In the fourth, a Franklin attack was averted by Long Wongs when right fielder Tom Mortonson ranged deep into the power alley to pull in a line drive that hit the top of his glove, bounced off his chest that he finally caught bare handed as he landed on the ground. Josh Sopczak followed two batters later with a running leaping catch in the left field alley that saved a run from scoring from second.
Club Paragon / Milwaukee Sporting Goods 12 Colonel Hart's 8
In a an offense powered game, Club Paragon/MSG was able to pull out the weekend sweep, beating Colonel Harts 12-8. In the second inning, Brian Peters started the charge with an RBI single, followed by several walks that drove in three runs. A Joe Vilskoski triple cleared the bases and a Steve Laabs double capped off the inning. In his first start this year, Mike Jalecic threw a 6 hitter complete game to get the win.
O'Briens / Milwaukee Harley Davidson 10 PJ's Royals 5
The Royals took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning when O'Briens/MHD's bats finally came alive scoring six runs and chipping in two in the seventh to get the victory. Dan Wilfrath went 3-4 and Greg Kohlhapp and Jon Stocks chipped in 3 RBI apiece. Jim Vielbaum pitched the complete game to get the win.
Planet Markey's Indians 8 Treat's Blue Jays 6
Tracks 9 over Johnny V's 8
Tracks was able to bounce back from an early 4-0 deficit to snatch their first win of the season. Connor Broderick got the win with solid relief pitching as Tracks rallied late taking advantage of walks and timely hits. Tracks now has something to show for a month of good baseball and are two games back going into a make or break doubleheader vs PJ's Royals.

June 9 & 10
O'Brien's/Milwaukee HD scored four runs in the top of the first highlighted by Dan Wilfrath's grand slam homerun and held on to win against a tough South Milwaukee Arcade squad. Wilfrath provided most of the offense going 3-3 with a HR, double and 5 RBI. Jim Vielbaum was 2-4 with a long double off the fence in left and scored three runs. The Wilfrath/Vielbaum tandem also provided all the pitching with Wilfrath going five innings to get the win and Vielbaum the final two to notch his first save of the season.
Johnny V's 13 Tosa Colonel Hart's 2
Mike Gramrossa threw a 2-hitter to get the complete game win. Dan Marx, Tony Lubarsky, and Eric Lubarsky each had 2 hits. Tony Lubarsky drove in 4 runs while Eric Lubarsky drove in 3 runs to lead the hitting attack.
Long Wongs 12 Blue Jays 1
Long Wongs balanced attack jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and didn't look back. Joe Brand led the way throwing 4 no hit innings before yielding a lead off double in the fifth and a run on two fielder's choices. Brand added two hits, as did Drew Dean who got on base all four of his plate appearances.
Kasper's 7 MPD 3
Varsity Club 7 Indians 3
The Varsity Club took an early lead with 4 runs in the first. The Varsity Club pitchers Mike Beringer and Travis Rose made the lead stick with good perfomances. Unfortunately the second game of the double header was called due to no lights.

Supreme Builders 12 Tracks 11
For the second consecutive game, Supreme Builders managed to have everyone in the game get a hit. Unfortunately, the injury riddled squad got dealt even more blows over this weekend. Game one starter Chad Olson threw 2 perfect innings with 3 strikeouts till an elbow injury forced him to leave the game. After three complete the Builders took a 12-0 lead. Tracks took advantage, as another Supreme player was injured after being hit by pitch and taken to the hosptial, scoring 8 runs on 2 hits in the top of the fourth. They then added 2 runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to bring the game to a slim one run lead. The game ended in the bottom of the sixth as the time limit was reached.
Supreme Builders 14 Tracks 10
In the second game of the double header, Tracks bats were hot as seven players had multiple hit games. Down 7-6 after three innings, Supreme put up an eight spot in the top of the forth to take the lead 14-7. It was that inning where the Builders lost another top hitter caused by a nagging quad injury. On the flip side, Tracks strong hearted Mckay continued to battle a leg injury from the first game to allow his team to continue play with nine guys.

Games of June 2 & 3
Brown Deer Supreme Builders 11 Johnny V's 10
Supreme Builders Finally found their winning ways in a nail bitter against Johnny Vs. The Builder's bats churned out 8 runs on 8 of their 18 hits in the first inning. Starter Brian Rennicke started the seventh inning with a 11-5 lead. However, opportunistic play by Johnny V's and defensive lapses lead to 4 unearned runs which narrowed the lead to one run. Chad Olson relieved Rennicke for the final out of the game to earn the save. Every batter in Supreme's lineup got a hit with Olson and Tommy Rapp having three each. Bry Rapp, Belter, Yach, and Baierl also had multi-hit games for the Builders. Johnny V's offense was led by leadoff hitter Dan Marx (3 hits, 3 runs) and Tony Jones (2 hits).
Franklin Barber Plumbing 3 O'Brien's / Milwaukee Harley Davidson 2
On a rain soaked Simmoms field at noon, O'Briens scored twice in the 4th on two throwing errors by Barber Plumbing after a great pitching duel between O'Brien's Dan Wilfrath and Franklin's Mike Slama. Barber Plumbing countered with three runs in the bottom of the 4th on 4hits. The teams finished a scoreless frame, and ended when rains came in caused the game to be shortened.
Long Wongs 5 PJ's Royals 1
Long Wongs' starting pitcher Josh Sopczak was chomping at the bit to get this game in after feeling slighted last year by an errant Royal comment, and with some help, raked and broomed Simmon's Field off to make it playable after an hour delay. Long Wong's gave Sopczak the lead he would need in the first, scoring two runs after leadoff hitter Aaron Krueger walked. Sopczak allowed one run in the first on three hits, but got out of the inning when right fielder Adam Graves made a perfect laser throw to cut-off man Krueger who wheeled and threw to catcher Evan Paydon who blocked the plate and put the tag on a Royal attempting to score. Sopczak then settled in and didn't allow another Royal threat in the complete game victory, with no more than one Royal reaching base in any other inning. Sopczak struck out three, popped up nine batters and induced eight ground outs- including four to third baseman Brian Jaeger who stamped 5-3 in the book flawlessly on the day. Wongs' outfielder John Wade put in his claim for toughest man in the league by staying in the game after taking a fastball to his equipment while squaring to bunt. Afterward at Long Wongs, Wade was heard saying, "man, it hurt...a lot."
Magoo's Indians 6 Colonel Hart's 5
Both teams worked hard to get the field in playing shape after rain came through before the start of the game. The Indians were in control early behind Justin Karpinski's pitching taking a 5-2 lead through 5 innings. Colonel Harts fought to tie things up in the in the 6th at 5-5. Doug Fremut held Colonel Hart's in check the rest of the way to get the save. In the 7th, Matt Imler sparked the Indians with a leadoff single, and the bases loaded and one out cacther Joe Oberlander scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
Milwaukee Police Department 13 Tracks 6
MPD took out some early frustration on the building Tracks squad scoring 13 runs in their first victory of the young season.
Varsity Club 5 Kasper's 4
Varsity Club knocked off Kasper's in another close game for the 2006 Champs.
South Milwaukee Arcade 17 Club Paragon / Milwaukee Sporting Goods 3

Long Wongs 8 Tracks 4
Long Wongs improved to 4-0 on the season, reversing their trend of starting slow the past few years. Tracks grinded to a 4-1 lead after five innings on the strength of solid pitching by Conner Broderick and several timely hits. In the sixth, with one out, Long Wongs' Kirk Spano and Bruce Smeby put the ball in play into holes and reached base on bobbles. Josh Sopczak, Aaron Krueger and Joe Brand all got two out hits to drive in runs to complete the opportunistic rally. Brian Jaeger led off the seventh with a double, was moved over on a fielders choice and scored on Smeby's RBI ground out to add an insurance run. Brand got the win and Sopczak the save.

Dan Wilfrath struck out nine for the third straight game to get the win. OB's/MHD Tim Heling was 3-4 with a double a two RBI's.

O'Brien's / Milwaukee HD 5 Johnny V's 4
Reunited in 2007 in the same division, the longest running rivalry in the MBL (dating back to 1986 Tosa Grads vs. Twins Tap) showcased O'Brien's / Milw. HD and Johnny V's. The teams kicked off an early season doubleheader on a cool Staurday night with two of the league's top pitchers, Dan Wilfrath and Mike Gramarosa going head to head in game one. O'Brien's scored first on Luke Sankey's two RBI single in the second inning. OB's tacked on a run in the third and it stayed 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth when JV's Paul Lennart led off with a homerun and Dan Goral drove in another run leaving OB's a 3-2 lead going into the seventh. Wilfrath (9K) gave way to closer Tim Heling in the seventh. Johnny V's pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh with RBI singles by Paul Lennart and Lee Kleszcynski, giving Johnny V's a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh. With JV's sticking with Gramarosa, O'Briens's loaded the bases with none retired and won on Chris Sanders' bases loaded single to score two and end this well played game.

Chris Sanders had three hits with three runs and two RBI's. Doug Dollhopf and Jim Vielbaum added two hits each for OB's/MHD. Johnny V's star pitcher Mike Gramarosa showed he could hit as well as pitch. Playing four positions in game two (1B, 2B, SS, and CF, though not all at once, leaving Bugs Bunny's record intact) he had two hits including a three run homerun. Rob Weist added a solo shot for Johnny V's.

On a huge offensive day, first year catcher Steve Laabs led the team with four hits, scored three times, and had two RBIs. Along with him, Bryan Ureda and Mike Jelacic both had two hits each and scored twice. Not to be left out, veterans Bobby Jankowski and Joe Vilkoski each had multi hit and multi RBI days.

Long Wong's 12 Milw PD 11
In the opening game of a Mother's Day doubleheader, Long Wongs and the Milwaukee Police Department (the longest tenured team in the MBL dating to the 1930s) engaged in a slugfest. Long Wong's tallied four runs in the bottom of the first on five singles to take a 4-0 lead after one. Then the MPD fireworks began as they scored five runs in the second on two doubles and a home run. On the day, Marcus Switzer of MPD went 2 of 4 with two doubles in what would be a record making day for him. Also mashing for MPD were Bob Welch (3-4, 3 dbl, 1r, 2bi) and Jeremy Gonzalez 3-4, HR, 3r, 2bi). Long Wongs got ahead in the third with four more runs using two singles, two walks and a two out double by Randy Kumm to take a the lead. In the fourth, Chris Adamski turned on a two strike pitch and put one over the left field wall driving in Adam Graves to give Long Wongs' relief pitcher Joe Brand enough room to hold off the MPD bats. MPD never regained the lead but kept the pressure on throughout, scoring three times in the top of the seventh to account for the final score. Adam Graves (3-4), Josh Sopczak (2-3) and Paul Sinklair (2-4) had multiple hit games for the Wongers.
Long Wongs 14 Milw PD 7
Long Wongs jumped out to a 10-0 lead after two innings, fuled by a nine run outburst in the second which included two batters taking one for the team and a two out, two run, line drive single by Kirk Spano (2-4, hbp, 2bi, 2r). Long Wongs' Spano, Tom Mortonson (3-4, hbp, 1bi, 3r) and Bruce Smeby (3-4, bb, 3bi, 2r) had multiple hit games to lead the balanced offense. Josh Sopzcak earned the win by starting and then re-entering from the OF when MPD put pressure on in the middle of the game. Included in that pressure was 54 years young Marcus Switzer's 2 run blast over the 375 sign in left field in the 5th. That home run broke Switzer's own record as the veteranest player with a home run.

Kasper's 13 Planet Markey's Indians 7
2007-05-05
Opening night in the Milwaukee Baseball League started with a match-up of the defending Champion Kasper's club against a Long Wongs team in generational transition. With the wind blowing firmly in at Zirkel Field on a cold night the clubs settled into a pitcher's duel. Kasper's veteran starter Tony Landgraf pitched his typically solid game but was touched for four runs in the second as Long Wongs' batters put seven consecutive balls in play. Though netting only two hits in the second, Long Wongs was able to push four runs across on solid base running, early season fielding by the Kasper's infield and a sac fly by Aaron Krueger. Jason Mikula who started at third base and had one of Kasper's three singles relieved in the fifth and struck out five Long Wongers to keep it close for Kasper's. Long Wongs' starter Joe Brand wouldn't allow Kasper's to close the gap however, as he stubbornly held Kasper's to no more than two baserunners in any inning and allowed only three hits while throwing an eight strike-out complete game to open the season. Long Wongs' defense supported the pitching performance with Brian Jaeger making two diving plays on the day, as well as, a clean pick-and-tag on an attempted steal of third, Tom Mortonson and Ben Garvey chasing down several fly balls in the outfield and Adam Graves playing a flawless first base including a swipe tag.
Helen's Indians 11 Franklin Barber Plumbing 5
On a brisk night at Joe Harden Field Franklin battled the new look Indians. Franklin took an early lead with 3 runs in the first, but the Indians battled back with 2 in the bottom of the first to make it 3-2 at the end of one. Franklin added one run each in the second and third, while the Indians added two in the second and one in the third to make it a 5-5 tie through 3 innings. Indian's rookie Justin Karpinski then held the Franklin offense to no runs his final two innings finishing with 11 strike-outs on the day. The Indians went on the attack with 3 runs in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th led by Joe Franzen (1-1, 4bb, 3r), Steve Perez (2-3, 3RBI) and Jason Thorn (3-3, 3SB, 2r, 1RBI). Doug Fremut closed with a scoreless 6th as the game ended on time.
Johnny V's 12 Blue Jays 1
2006 Pitcher of the Year, Mike Gramarossa pitched 6 solid innings to get the win. Mike struck out 9 without walking a batter. Johnny V's took advantage of 13 walks and 4 hit by pitches to score 12 runs. Rob Weist drove in 3 runs and Dan Marx reached base 5 times via 4 BB's and a double.
Texx's Royals 18 Varsity Club 10
It was a cold and windy opening night, all the children were bundled up tight, and all through the line-ups the bats weren't a bit light. The Bulldawgs came out hot to open the season, scoring 7 runs in the first inning. Varsity Club fought back, but was unable to keep up as everyone in the Royals lineup contributed as they finished with eighteen runs tallied on the night. Adam Miller threw a warrior like complete game and got the win.
South Milwaukee Arcade 10 MPD 7
Club Paragon 9 Tracks 3
With solid pitching by newcomers Sean Finnegan and Bryan Ureda, Club Paragon was able to set the tone early in the game for the Opening Day win. Key hitting by Joe Vilkoski and Mike Grabek, along with a huge three run homer by Steve Laabs in the bottom of the 4th, allowed the Phillies to gain the lead early and hold off Tracks for the remainder of the game. A total team effort went a long way in the win.
Leff's 11 Supreme Builders 10
O'Brien's 14 Tosa Colonel Hart's 1
Dan Wilfrath scattered four hits while striking out 10 leading O'Brien's / Milw HD to an opening day victory. Wilfrath didn't walk a batter and allowed only one unearned run, while Tim Heling had four RBI in a quick 1 hour 25 minute game (take note MLB American Leaguers).

That's right MBL has two of them. Games at Zirkel and Harden Fields Saturday night May 5th at 5:30 and 8pm. Also, games at Simmons and Kuenn Sunday May 6th at noon and 2:30pm. Come out and see Milwaukee County's ametuer baseball league.
Winning managers, remember to submit game summaries, with a line or two at least, about the game by Monday evening.
Two teams aren't paid in full, please pay in full by May 4th at lunch time, or you will forfeit your first game and be subject to a $130 forfeit fee for umps and the scorekeeper. I will be having lunch on May 4th from 11:45am to 1pm at Club Paragon. I will have your baseballs there as well that day. Managers, your outstanding checks are all being deposited on May 4th. I also have baseballs and scorebooks for 2 teams. Remember to EMAIL rosters using the roster form above by Friday to Jim and Kirk.New players: We have had about 50 new player applications sent in the past month. Some players have found teams, although most team rosters are fairly full. There are a handful of teams that can use one or two more players. I have sent all "new player applications" to the managers in the league. If you are not contacted, your best bet is to go to a couple of games the first few weekends and talk to the managers after their games, particularly those who don't have a lot of guys on their benchs. Also, in June when players start to schedule vacations and some injuries occur is another good opportunity to visit with managers after games to see about playing the second half of the season and preparing for next year.
We would love to expand in the future, however, all new teams must have a diamond to play half of their games on from this point forward until Milwaukee County renovates a couple of secondary diamonds into game quality fields. (Feel free to contact your County Supervisor to ask them to allocate more money back to the parks, as the park's budget has been slashed relentlessly for a decade now; and reduce funding instead for other items where broad based community benefits are not apparent. The Milwaukee County Parks system is a part of the fabric of the area which virtually all area residents benefit from. The parks help sustain and improve the quality of life in the Milwaukee area. This is vitally important to many people, but especially to young people and their families, which in turn is important to the ultimate economic development of the region.) So, if you would like an expansion team in 2008, you will need a sponsor(s) to cover at least $800 of team fees (with $500 due at our first meeting in January 2008), a diamond, such as a high school diamond, that can be used very inexpensively and a fifteen man roster.
Note: The games on 5-12 between Johnny V's and O'Brien's are at 5:30pm and 8pm.
